A Memorial Day to Remember
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key onMay 22, 2020 in General, The Beach, Things To Do.

There’s nothing quite like a weekend on the beach to kick of summer. On Memorial Day, Siesta Key plays hosts to plenty of visitors from around the state and country, as well as locals ready to kick their shoes off and sink into the sand. If you plan to welcome summer this weekend with a trip to Siesta Key, the professionals at Best Western Siesta Key have a few suggestions to help make your weekend one to remember.
Tips on Navigating Siesta Key
Whether you’re visiting Sarasota or live in the area, you’ll likely be driving to the beach for your day on the water. Parking can be a bit tough and the main lots fill quickly. We suggest you come early and plan to stay. Alternatively, check out some of our local transportation services. These are especially helpful if you are staying on the island. Regardless of how you choose to get around while you’re here, be ready to be patient. We operate on island time, especially during busy weekends like Memorial Day. You’ll likely find yourself waiting for parking, waiting for a table at your favorite eatery, waiting for your ride. It’s okay- take a deep breath, sip a frosty drink, and enjoy the slower pace!
Don’t Miss Activities
While many people love to simply soak in the sunshine and swim in the Gulf of Mexico’s warm waters, there’s also plenty to do outside on this fabulous weekend. Look into renting a boat or kayaks and exploring the marine life that inhabits Siesta Key. Hike or bike one of the many nature trails in the area. In the mornings, join a yoga class on the quartz-infused sands of our famous beaches. On Sunday evening, celebrate everything good in life with our famous drum circle on the beach at sunset. There are so many unique and exotic experiences to be had on Siesta Key, Memorial Day, or anytime. Explore and discover an adventure to remember for years to come!
A Word of Caution
A few quick warnings, especially if you’re not a Floridian. The sun is already quite strong by Memorial Day in Florida, so it’s important to protect yourself. Wear plenty of sunscreen (and reapply regularly when outside for extended periods of time!) and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout your visit. If you swim in the Gulf, be sure to observe lifeguard station flags that indicate what kind of currents or marine life are present at the moment. Florida is full of natural wildlife, from insects to alligators- be respectful of their habitats and use caution when hiking or exploring more natural areas. By adhering to a few safety precautions, you’re sure to enjoy a fun-filled weekend that may just include a few delightful surprises along the way!
