Beach-Friendly Camera Tips
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key onJanuary 23, 2023 in General.

Florida beaches embody what dreams are made of, and Siesta Key is no exception. In fact, Siesta Key is ranked one of the top beaches in the world, and for good reason. It is one of the most beautiful beaches, with its crystal white sand, warm turquoise waters, and beautiful Gulf Coast sunsets. While enjoying your trip to Siesta Key, you may want to capture this beauty along with photographs of your friends and family. However, the beach is not always the most technology-friendly setting. That’s why we at Best Western Siesta Key are here to give you some tips on how to be your camera can be “beach-friendly” so you can get the best pictures without risking damaging your camera.
Consider the type of Camera
If you want to make sure your vacation memories are captured during your visit but don’t want to lug around a big camera or worry about the health of your technology, it may be a good idea to get a waterproof camera. Saltwater generally isn’t great for electronics, so a good idea is to find a disposable waterproof camera. If your phone also acts as your primary camera, perhaps investing in a disposable waterproof camera is an even better idea. Phones have become an integral part of our lives, and you don’t need the stress of worrying about damaging yours when you’re trying to relax on your vacation. At the very least, we suggest investing in a durable waterproof, and sand-proof case for your phone.
Protecting your Camera
If you’re not planning on getting too close to the water, you may not need a waterproof camera at all. However, sand gets everywhere, even if you bring a towel or blanket. When spending time on any beach, the phone or camera you bring is certainly at risk of attracting sand to each nook and cranny. Consider bringing a wagon or a large beach bag to store any items or devices you want to keep sand away from. Having a bag will help keep the sand off your belongings and even deter seagulls and people from seeing your personal belongings and stealing them. You can also turn to a Ziploc bag or airtight bag, as this is a fantastic way to protect your phone or camera from the elements.
Camera Positioning
Once you’re satisfied with your equipment and confident that it is safe from being damaged, you will want to make sure that you can capture the best photos possible. To help you, we wanted to share a few beach photography tips to keep in mind. Firstly, be mindful of your lighting. The beach is a sunny place, and you want to make sure that the sun or reflection from the water doesn’t cause unflattering lighting. A good rule of thumb is to position the direct sunlight behind your camera for the best lighting. Beach lighting is also particularly stunning since due to the numerous colors reflecting off the water and sand at various times of day. Sunset at Siesta Key, for instance, is one of the most beautiful sights in the world and the perfect time of day for photographs. Whether you stay all afternoon through sunset or come back just in take to soak in the sight, you will surely want to get photographs of the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico.
Having some valuable camera tips and tricks up your sleeve will help you capture the beauty, fun, and remarkable memories from Siesta Key.
