Guide to Playing Beach Volleyball on Siesta Key Beach
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key onFebruary 5, 2020 in The Beach, Things To Do.

Between sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the beautiful views of our great beaches, there’s also the fun activity of beach volleyball that is always a blast to play or just watch. If you’re interested in knowing how to get a game started or just enjoy being a spectator of the sport, then the beach experts at Best Western Siesta Key can fill you in on all of the local beach volleyball details.
Where to Find a Net
Beach volleyball nets are located on several beaches along Florida’s Gulf Coast. The nets on Siesta Key Public Beach are used for collegiate games and club tournaments, which means they’re well-maintained, high quality, and ready for action. Siesta Key Beach’s volleyball courts are located adjacent to the main pavilion. Concessions and local waterfront restaurants are located nearby, as well as the refreshing gulf waters for the perfect cool down after a fast and furious match.
What to Bring
Bring your own volleyball and make sure to pack a cooler with cold beverages and snacks, sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen. Playing all day on the beach is a great way to relax and have fun, but many people dismiss or forget the importance of sunscreen. Whether sunny, cloudy, cool, or hot, though, the Florida sun is still harsh and you need to protect your skin. Towels, beach umbrellas, beach chairs, floats, and some cash for concessions are also good beach accessories to bring.
How to Jump Into a Game
With multiple volleyball nets on Siesta Key Beach, joining a game already in progress or starting up a new one shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If it looks like an extra player is needed, approach the group in a friendly manner and ask if you can join. Sometimes, though, you may have to wait patiently for your turn while watching others finish up a game. Be sure to let your intentions of wanting to play next be known, though, and make sure there aren’t other people already waiting. Whether playing or watching, you’ll soak up the sun, enjoy a beautiful day at the beach, and possibly make some new friends in the meantime. If you’re new to the game, feel free to ask for tips. Locals will love to help you out and show off their moves at the same time.
Watching Tournaments
If you happen to be in the area while a tournament is happening, arrive early to get a good seat. Siesta Key attracts some of the best volleyball players around the nation. Brush up on the rules of the game, and then watch the excitement of players diving, jumping, blocking, and slamming the ball. Some of the best local tournaments on Siesta Key include The Fiesta on Siesta Key College Girls’ Volleyball Tournament, Dig the Beach Volleyball Series, which is one of the largest sand volleyball tournaments in the country, Corona Light Wide Open Siesta Key Tournament, the East End Volleyball Tournament, and the College Women’s Sand Volleyball Tournament.
After watching a game of volleyball, you’ll likely want to give it a go yourself. So, after a relaxing period of sunbathing and enjoying the gulf waters, grab a friend (or make a new one), and start up a game of volleyball. Just don’t forget the ball!
