Packing Tips when Flying to Siesta Key vs Driving
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key onMarch 6, 2023 in General.

There’s a reason that the beaches of Siesta Key are a top travel destination for tourists: The sand is soft and sugary, the water is warm, and the views dazzle with cerulean and teal tones. These characteristics make this spot ideal for lounging for long hours soaking up sun, surf, and sea. However, if you’re planning to enjoy this popular locale on your next sojourn to paradise, you will of course need to be prepared and pack accordingly. So before you hop in the car or board the airplane, we here at Best Western Siesta Key have some helpful packing tips to help you make the most of your time at this iconic beach escape.
Check with your hotel or resort first
What you need to pack naturally depends on what amenities are provided by your hotel. For example, some will have towels you can bring with you to the beach via a complimentary shuttle service, as we do here at Best Western Siesta Key. Then when you are out on the sand, your accommodations may also include furniture such as beach chairs and umbrellas as well as items like toys; in this case, you can leave yours at home.
Pack empty car space with chairs, toys, and more
If you’re heading down to Siesta Key in your vehicle, you can save ample time and money by bringing any furniture that you already have at home with you. The good news is that most beach chairs are collapsable and won’t take up too much space in your car. You can also bring your pop-up canopy with you, as it will provide both good sun protection and a designated space for you to enjoy when you’re not in the water. Just make sure to secure any valuable items in your vehicle when you’re at the beach if you plan to leave your base of operations unoccupied at any time.
Buying vs. renting if you’re flying
Plenty of folks come to Siesta Key from faraway places, so the best mode of transportation is obviously an airplane. Fortunately the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is less than 10 miles from Best Western Siesta Key, making it convenient to fly into the area. Of course, bringing beach canopies, umbrellas, and chairs isn’t tenable on a plane, so you’ll need to rent or buy what you plan to take with you out to the water. Fortunately, there are abundant beach rental outfitters in the area, so you can get everything you need without worrying about what to do with it when you’re done. Just inquire at the front desk and we’ll get you connected.
Don’t forget your cooler
No day at the beach is complete without snacks and drinks, which means you’re going to need a cooler along with your furniture and toys. Consider bringing, buying, or renting a sturdy option like a Yeti, which will keep your sundries ice cold in the hot Sarasota sun. If you’re driving, coolers can do double duty and keep your beverages cold for the duration of your road trip, too — a win-win.
No matter how you get to Best Western Siesta Key, you’re sure to have a great time as long as you sort your options beforehand. Don’t forget to check out our guide to the top Siesta Key attractions for your beach vacation itinerary while you’re planning for the same reason.
