If you’re a dog lover, and pet owner, you may feel like a vacation is not a vacation unless EVERYONE, including Fido, comes along. When visiting Siesta Key, Sarasota, and the surrounding area, you’ll find plenty of great locations that love dogs almost as much as you do. With several beautiful dog parks and beaches in the area, dogs can socialize and experience the natural beauty and wildlife of Florida’s Gulf Coast. On Siesta Key and throughout Sarasota, you’ll also find several dog-friendly businesses that will love to include your pup in your outings. The local experts at The Best Western Siesta Key have some great venues, parks, and beaches to share with you and your favorite canine.
Dog Parks
Local dog parks in Sarasota have plenty to offer your puppy. While several require leashes, you can find specific dog parks (otherwise known as paw parks) at Bird Key Park or Bayfront Park and Marina. Walk your dog through the trails at Celery Fields, or visit the dog park at Lakeview Park to give your pup some socialization with other dogs. You’ll enjoy the preserved nature of rugged Florida as you and your dog frolics through the tall grasses, mossy oak trees, and sandy shores of our local parks.
Dog Beaches
If you specifically want to let your dog experience the fun and excitement of the Florida coastline, visit Brohard Paw Park on Venice Beach. Give your pooch the chance to test the waters, chase the waves, and shake the sand off when you bring her to the sandy shores of our Gulf Coast. With picnic stations, restrooms, a fishing pier, and a rinse station (trust us, you’ll be grateful for this before you leave!), there’s something for everyone to have a perfect day in the sun. You can also visit the Fort DeSoto Dog Beach Park or the DeSoto National Memorial Park for more great ways to give your dog an awesome beach vacation.
Other Dog-Friendly Sites
Beyond a day at the beach, you’ll find plenty of venues that are so excited to welcome your dog along with you. Every farmer’s market, from Sarasota to Siesta Key, not only allows dogs but welcome them fondly. Many vendors cater to dogs with toys, treats, and nutrition you and your dog will love. St. Armand’s Circle is another great place to wander with your pooch. Many shops allow leashed dogs inside, and most restaurants and cafes have outdoor seating that accommodates puppies with water bowls and small treats. A few other local haunts that welcome dogs include The Daiquiri Deck on Siesta Key, O’Leary’s Tiki Bar near Marina Jack’s in Bayfront Park, Amore Italian Restaurant in the Burns Court neighborhood, and Big Top Brewery. Check out any of these favorites with your special pet during your visit to the area.
Bringing your dog on vacation with you can feel like an extra treat or a complete family vacation. Indulging a dog’s life by exploring nearby dog parks and beaches can enrich the entire family’s vacation, allowing you to see and experience different areas of Sarasota than you might have otherwise seen. As you plan your next trip to our gorgeous Gulf Coast, discuss your plans with our local professionals at The Best Western Siesta Key. We’ll be happy to share our favorite pet-friendly spots and point you and your pup to some great locations while you’re in the area.
