Why You Should Head South for the Holidays
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key on December 14, 2020 in General.

Perfect white snow falling on Christmas morning is the picturesque stereotype that comes to mind this time of year, but here in Siesta Key, we have sun and sand all year long. While the holidays in Florida may not look like a white Christmas depicted in movies, there are still many ways to celebrate them. The experts at the Best Western Siesta Key suggest participating in family events, shopping at local stores, and taking a drive to look at the multitudes of lights to get in the holiday spirit.
Family Events
It’s that time of year to show thanks for loved ones, and around Siesta Key there are so many ways to celebrate with family. For example, Manatee County’s A Night Before Christmas holiday even is going on from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at GT Bray Park. Since many events are being canceled or rescheduled this year, some have even decided to go virtual. These include the Sandy Claws Beach Run if your family is active, or the “Digital Old-Fashion Christmas,” which is put on by the Manatee Historical Society and will include story-time, a craft, and a holiday recipe- all from the comfort of your home.
Shopping
Don’t forget the presents! Siesta Key is home to many unique local shops that are sure to make your holiday shopping a blast. For example, the Siesta Key Village consists of many shops that sell wares from fun ornaments to beach themed jewelry and tropical kitchenware. The Village also holds the Siesta Key Farmers Market every Sunday from 8-12 and is sure to result in some cool holiday finds.
Holiday Lights
Another thing you can’t miss out on during the holidays is the fantastic light spectacles. The Marie Shelby Botanical Gardens will be holding their annual light show “Lights in Bloom.” The Shelby show consists of over two million lights and features a glowing rainforest complete with lit up flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, and more. Siesta Key Village is also lit up this year for people to view on their own, instead of in a parade like years past, and a meet-and-greet with Santa is scheduled for December 20th at a South Village location so children can get their Santa fix while also enjoying the festive holiday lights.
While this year looks a little different, there are still so many fun and festive events to do with your family on Siesta Key this holiday season. From fun family events to radiant light festivals, Siesta Key has it all. And while the ground won’t be covered in snow like in the movies, the experts at Best Western Siesta Key can assure you that this will be a holiday season to remember.
