There is nothing more disappointing than gearing up for an afternoon at one of the world’s greatest beaches only to watch the sky open up and the rain start to pour. Not even your friends here at Best Western Siesta Key can ensure your Florida vacation is free of clouds, rain, or thunder. We can, however, ensure that a rainy day in Siesta Key is still filled with adventure, thrills, inspiration, and family bonding. Take a look at our guide on what to do when it rains during your Siesta Key vacation.
Museums
Siesta Key and Sarasota are overflowing with history, innovation, curiosity, art, culture, and wildlife. Therefore, there is no shortage of brilliant and inspiring museums and attractions to visit during your vacation. Aside from our favorites, like The Ringling and Sarasota Classic Car Museum, be sure to check out the noteworthy Mote Marine Aquarium and the creative, bold, and breathtaking Sarasota Art Museum. Children of all ages are sure to learn something new while exploring these fascinating and ever-rotating exhibits.
Movie Theaters and Bowling Allys
Two classic indoor activities that never fail to amuse, are catching a movie and going bowling. Find your favorite new release at one of four local theaters, including Regal Hollywood – Sarasota, Parkway 8 Cinema, AMC 12, which offers a remarkable IMAX experience, and CMX CineBistro Siesta Key, for a unique lunch or dinner during the film. A nostalgic day of bowling with the family at AMF Gulf Gate Lanes or Sarasota Lanes can also be just as memorable as a day at the beach, especially if you bowl a strike!
Indoor Amusement and Escape Rooms
There is no end to indoor fun near Siesta Key. For more interactive family fun, check out Livingston’s Amusements for bumper cars, go-carts, a climbing wall, arcade, bazooka ball, billiards, and more. Cash in your tickets for great prizes and souvenirs to take home and enjoy. Older kids and families who love a good challenge are sure to find one at Lokey’s Escape Rooms, Escape Reality, or Escape Room Sarasota. Test your knowledge, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and patience as you race to find a key and set yourself free.
Siesta Key Shopping
Siesta Key Village is home to over 75 different shops for souvenirs, beach gear, jewelry, beautiful gifts, and the latest fashion trends and styles. Another local favorite shopping destination is the renowned St. Armand’s Circle. Surrounded by classic palm trees, this loop is filled with luxury shopping and delicious restaurants to satisfy anyone’s tastebuds.
Indoor Shopping Mall
While you will need your umbrella as you quickly dart between stores at both Siesta Key Village and St. Armand’s, you can take full cover at the Mall at University Town Center. Spend hours browsing the 150 stores and restaurants, including anchor stores Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s, and Macy’s and designer shops like Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, and Louis Vuitton. You can even take the little ones to create a new best friend at Build-A-Bear.
Although many would prefer to spend a warm sunny day in Siesta Key with their toes in the ultra-soft sand or feeling the fresh crystal blue water wash upon their feet, there are endless ways to enjoy the area. When Mother Nature’s plans don’t match up with yours, you can always rely on us here at Best Western Siesta Key, to suggest the next best thing to fill your itinerary.
