Your Guide to Siesta Key Weather All Year Round
Posted by Best Western Siesta Key onAugust 14, 2023 in General, Siesta Key, Travel Tips.

You’d be hard-pressed to argue that Siesta Key doesn’t have great beach weather year-round, thanks to frequent sunny skies and warm temperatures. However, there are nuances to be aware of — such as rain patterns, cold fronts, and storm systems — so you can know what to expect and plan accordingly. In this guide, the local experts at Best Western Siesta Key will walk you through the weather throughout the seasons, helping you make the most of your stay.
March through May: Enjoy Warm and Comfortable Weather
At the beginning of March, Siesta Key awakens to warm and comfortable weather. From this time into May, the average daytime temperatures range from the mid-70s to the low 80s Fahrenheit, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities like kayaking, biking, and pickleball. The Gulf of Mexico also starts to warm up, making swimming and snorkeling fun and refreshing activities.
Having a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings is a good idea, as temperatures can drop slightly, especially earlier in the season. Spring is also a popular time to visit, so book your stay at Best Western Siesta Key well in advance.
June through Mid-October: Hot Temps, Rainy Season, and a Word of Caution
Summertime in Siesta Key is synonymous with hot, sun-soaked days and balmy nights — perfect for spending your days at the beach. The temperatures during this season range from the high 80s to low 90s (though temperatures have been rising over the years; mid- to high-90s is not uncommon). Heat indexes can become exceptionally high in August and September. Not surprisingly, the waters of the Gulf are warm — even reaching temps in the 90s in some spots. Just be sure to hydrate with cold water and apply sunblock frequently.
Siesta Key also has a rainy season from June to September, with the highest chances of precipitation later in the season. While showers are common during these months, they are often short-lived and followed by clear skies. It’s a good idea to pack a travel-sized umbrella and a light rain jacket to be prepared for sudden downpours. If you see a storm approaching, head inside for some indoor fun.
An especially important fact you need to know is that June 1 through November 30 every year is hurricane season, with peak season being mid-August through October. If you are traveling during this time, speak with our front desk so you can prepare accordingly. Additionally, familiarize yourself with local weather alerts and evacuation procedures.
Late October through February: Florida Fall and Winter
Late fall brings a gentle transition to cooler and milder weather on Siesta Key. Temperatures during late October and November range from the mid-70s to the low 80s, creating a pleasant environment for exploring the island without the intense heat of summer. Then in winter, temperatures typically range from the high 60s to mid-70s, providing an escape from the frigid weather in the north. Note that cold fronts come and go during this time, making occasional temperatures in the 40s and 50s possible. Winter is also the driest season. Pack layers, including sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and pants, along with your swimwear for those sunny afternoons on the shore.
Siesta Key is a year-round haven for vacationers seeking sun, sand, and relaxation. By understanding the weather patterns of each season and following safety guidelines, you can make the most of your stay at the Best Western Siesta Key.
